English Department and Centre for Children’s Literature, St. Patrick’s College A Symposium:  

“Irish and American Perspectives:
Politics & Children’s Literature”

The Centre for Children’s Literature and Culture will be hosting a public symposium on Friday afternoon, 15 April 2016. Room G114 (G Block/Cregan Library).

  • 2-3 pm PJ Lynch on his most recent, and first authored, book, The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower or John Howland’s Good Fortune (Walker Books, 2015)
  • 3-4 pm Professor Jerry Griswold on ‘The War in Children’s Books: American Revolutionary Stories’
  • Followed by a reception

Ireland’s most significant illustrator, PJ Lynch, has won many awards for his book illustrations of folklore and fairytale, historical and realistic fiction, including the Mother Goose award, the Christopher Medal, and the Kate Greenaway Medal.

Jerry Griswold’s recently republished Audacious Kids: The Classic American Children’s Story (Johns Hopkins, 2014) first appeared in the 1990s when it was awarded the ‘Outstanding Book of the Year’ by the Children’s Literature Association of the United States.
